International Women’s Day Wrap-up

On the back of a tumultuous and unprecedented year the International Women’s Day (IWD) theme for 2021 is Choose to Challenge. This is a timely theme to inspire and support the larger community to see the opportunity in the challenges that lay ahead of them and to also take stock in the challenges they have overcome recently.

Young girls, young women and our wiser older women are all key parts in storytelling to help share experiences, challenges and the strength they have found in themselves to overcome obstacles. This year’s Stuartholme Sacre Coeur Alumnae (SSCA) IWD event celebrated the art of conversation, the importance of storytelling and the strength of community that can be fostered in the wake of rich engagement.

We were fortunate to have Juanita Wheeler (Graduate of 1992 Class), Founder of Full&Frank and CEO of TedX Brisbane as our Keynote speaker; Michael Elliot, 30 years of Service as a Sacred Heart Educator and now the Director of Enrichment at Stuartholme; Daisy Richardson (Graduate of 2011 Class) contestant on Survivor 2019, Assistant Manager at Fitstop Labrador, and Emily Palmer (Graduate of 2013 Class) Graduate engineer at Newcrest Mining. This event provided a snapshot into some uphill battles that our wonderful Alumnae have confronted and also the art of Running Downhill and learning to enjoy the challenges that life gives you.

This was our second SSCA IWD to be held and we were delighted to see our attendance double and will continue to grow from strength to strength.
